Concessive Compound: 哪怕...也/还... (Even If)

哪怕……,也/还…… · nǎpà……, yě/hái……

Express determination or willingness to act despite unfavorable conditions using 哪怕...也/还...

Pattern哪怕 + extreme/unfavorable condition,(主语)+ 也/还 + action/attitudeUse 哪怕 to present an extreme or unfavorable hypothetical condition, followed by 也 or 还 to show that the action or attitude will not change. 哪怕 means "even if" and emphasizes the speaker's strong determination.

哪怕明天下雨,足球比赛也要继续进行。

不……也…… · bù……yě……

Express that someone will do something even at the cost of not doing something else using 不...也...

Pattern主语 + 不 + Action A + 也 + 要/会/得 + Action BUse 不...也... to express that the subject will carry out Action B even if it means giving up or not doing Action A. The pattern emphasizes determination or priority — Action B is so important that Action A can be sacrificed.

今天晚上我不睡觉也要把这篇作文写完。

Jīntiān wǎnshang wǒ bú shuìjiào yě yào bǎ zhè piān zuòwén xiě wán.

Tonight I will finish this essay even if I do not sleep.

他不吃饭也要帮我修电脑。

Tā bù chīfàn yě yào bāng wǒ xiū diànnǎo.

Approximate Numbers 3: Number + 来 + Measure Word

Express approximate quantities using the pattern number + 来 + measure word

Pattern数词 + 来 + 量词 (+ 名词)Insert 来 between a round number and its measure word to express "about" or "approximately." The number must typically be a round number (十, 二十, 一百, etc.) — you cannot use this with arbitrary digits like 七 or 三.

教室里有十来个学生。

Jiàoshì lǐ yǒu shí lái gè xuéshēng.

There are about ten students in the classroom.

Pattern小数: X点Y | 分数: Y分之X | 百分数: 百分之X | 倍数: X倍Decimals use 点 (diǎn) for the decimal point. Fractions read from denominator to numerator: Y分之X means X/Y. Percentages use 百分之 followed by the number. Multiples use 倍 (bèi) after the number.

零点三加零点七等于一。

Líng diǎn sān jiā líng diǎn qī děngyú yī.

0.3 plus 0.7 equals 1.

这一百个汉字,我认识三分之二。

Zhè yì bǎi gè hànzì, wǒ rènshi sān fēn zhī èr.

Of these 100 characters, I know two-thirds.

他这么有名,谁不知道啊!

Tā zhème yǒumíng, shéi bù zhīdào a!

He is so famous — who doesn't know him! (= everyone knows)

他去哪儿,我怎么会知道呢?

Tā qù nǎr, wǒ zěnme huì zhīdào ne?

Where he went — how would I know?

作业这么多,我哪儿有时间出去玩儿?

Zuòyè zhème duō, wǒ nǎr yǒu shíjiān chūqù wánr?

Double Negation for Emphasis

Use double negation patterns to express strong affirmation and emphasis

Pattern没有……不…… | 不……不…… | 不可能不…… | 不会不……Two negative words cancel each other out, resulting in a strong positive meaning. 没有人不喜欢 (nobody doesn't like = everyone likes). This is more emphatic than simply saying 每个人都喜欢.

没有孩子不喜欢玩儿。

Méiyǒu háizi bù xǐhuan wánr.

No child doesn't like to play. (= Every child likes to play.)

这么重要的活动我不可能不参加。

Zhème zhòngyào de huódòng wǒ bù kěnéng bù cānjiā.

There's no way I wouldn't attend such an important event.

老师不会不答应我们的请求。

Lǎoshī bú huì bù dāying wǒmen de qǐngqiú.

The teacher will certainly agree to our request.

我连最简单的汉字都写不出来。

Wǒ lián zuì jiǎndān de hànzì dōu xiě bù chūlái.
