1. Overview
Deleting your account removes your personal data from Mandarin Temple permanently. There are two ways to do it: instantly yourself from inside the app, or by sending us a request. Either way, your account is disabled immediately and all personal data is permanently erased within 30 days. Until then you can change your mind and reactivate it — see section 3.
2. Delete Your Account in the App
The fastest way — you stay in control and it takes effect right away:
- Sign in and open My Account.
- Open the Privacy section.
- Click Delete Account, answer three short questions (“I’d rather not say” is always an option), and confirm with your password.
Your account is disabled the moment you confirm, and all of your personal data is permanently removed after 30 days. We email you to confirm, and once more a week before and the day before it is removed.
3. Changing Your Mind
For 30 days after you delete your account, you can bring it back with everything as it was: sign in with your email and password (or with Google or Apple), or use the Reactivate my account link in any of our emails about the deletion. If you have forgotten your password, use Forgot password and we will email you a reactivation link instead. If you paid for a plan, it resumes where it was, unless its paid period has already ended.
5. Request Deletion by Email
Email us at contact@mandarintemple.com from the email address on your account, with the subject "Delete my account". We verify the request, delete your account, and confirm by email — completed within 30 days, and typically much sooner.
6. What Gets Deleted
Permanently removing your account erases all personal data tied to it, including:
- Your profile — name, email, password, avatar, bio and social links
- Learning progress — XP, streaks, lesson completions, checkpoints and study history
- The record of your individual answers — what was asked, what you answered including text you typed into an exercise, how long you took and what you got wrong
- The per-item mastery estimates derived from those answers, and the error patterns behind them
- Learning Lab research data — any cognitive-task results, your study enrolments and your research-consent record. No copy is kept under a research exemption
- Flashcards, saved vocabulary and spaced-repetition review data
- Study-circle membership, and content you posted under your own name
- Direct messages and published testimonials are unlinked from you rather than erased — your name and account link are removed, and the text remains because it is also the other person’s record of a conversation they took part in
- Onboarding profile, preferences and settings
A few things may be retained only where the law requires it or in fully anonymized, non-identifying form: billing/transaction records needed for tax and accounting, and aggregate analytics that can no longer be linked to you. That includes a short anonymous note that an account was closed — the months it was opened and closed, roughly how much it was used, and the answers you chose to the questions when you deleted it — with no name, email address, exact dates or anything else that identifies you. Any comment you wrote is deleted with your account. Our security log keeps the bare record that events happened — a sign-in, a password reset — with the IP address, device, email addresses and the link to you removed. 4. If You Signed in with Google or Facebook
If you created your account with a social login, you may not have a password set. You have two options:
Note: removing Mandarin Temple from your Facebook settings (Settings & Privacy → Settings → Apps and Websites) or your Google account only revokes future sign-in access — it does not delete the data already stored in your Mandarin Temple account. Use one of the methods above for full deletion.
