1. Acceptance
By accessing or using Mandarin Temple, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
2. Service Description
Mandarin Temple is an online Mandarin Chinese learning platform offering dictionary, grammar, lessons, pronunciation practice, spaced repetition, and AI-powered study tools. The service is available as a progressive web application (PWA).
3. User Accounts
3.1 Registration
You must provide accurate information when creating an account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials.
3.2 Account Tiers
- Pilgrim — Unregistered visitors with limited preview access
- Learner — Free registered accounts with access to core dictionary and basic features
- Student ($8.99/month) — Full dictionary access, monthly limits on audio TTS, and XP-driven progression system
- Pro Student ($22.99/month) — Unlimited access to dictionary, grammar, lessons, AI tutor, pronunciation trainer, and all on-demand API features
3.3 Institutional Accounts
Schools, universities, and corporations may register institutional accounts through our Collaboration program. Teachers may view enrolled students' progress.
4. Subscriptions & Payments
Paid plans are billed monthly through Stripe. You may cancel at any time; access continues until the end of the billing period. Refunds are available within 14 days of initial subscription.
We reserve the right to adjust pricing with 30 days' notice to active subscribers.
5. Ambassador Program
Approved ambassadors earn a finder's fee (up to 10%) on collaborations they facilitate. Ambassador status is granted at our discretion and may be revoked for violations of these terms. Full ambassador terms are provided upon acceptance into the program.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Share account credentials with others
- Attempt to access data belonging to other users
- Scrape, crawl, or bulk-download content
- Use the AI tutor or pronunciation features for purposes unrelated to language learning
- Upload harmful, offensive, or illegal content
- Circumvent access restrictions or rate limits
7. Intellectual Property
All content, including dictionary entries, grammar explanations, lessons, audio, and illustrations, is owned by Mandarin Temple or used under license. You may not reproduce, distribute, or commercially exploit this content without written permission.
User-generated content (e.g., study notes) remains your property. You grant us a license to store and display it within the platform.
8. AI-Generated Content
Responses from the AI Study Assistant and pronunciation feedback are generated by artificial intelligence and may contain errors. They are provided for educational guidance and should not be considered authoritative language instruction.
9. Offline Functionality
Mandarin Temple supports offline use through its PWA architecture. Content cached locally is for personal use only. Synchronization with the server occurs when connectivity is restored.
10. Termination
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. You may delete your account at any time from your Profile dashboard, which permanently removes your personal data.
11. Limitation of Liability
Mandarin Temple is provided "as is." We do not guarantee uninterrupted service, error-free content, or specific learning outcomes. Our liability is limited to the amount you paid in the 12 months preceding any claim.
12. Governing Law
These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Singapore, without regard to conflict of law principles. Nothing in this section removes any mandatory statutory protection or data-protection right you have under the law of your country of residence — including the GDPR (EU/EEA), PDPA (Singapore), PIPL (China), APPI (Japan), and PIPA (South Korea) — and we comply with those requirements regardless of the choice of law above.
13. Changes
We may update these terms with 30 days' notice. Continued use constitutes acceptance of revised terms.
