Time Adverbs: 时时, 一时, 早晚

时间副词:时时、一时、早晚 · shíjiān fùcí: shíshí, yìshí, zǎowǎn

Express temporal concepts: 时时 (at all times), 一时 (momentarily/for a while), 早晚 (sooner or later)

Pattern时时/一时/早晚 + 动词/动词短语时时 means "at all times / constantly" and precedes a verb to show ongoing attention. 一时 means "momentarily / for a short while" and often appears with 不/没 to express temporary inability. 早晚 means "sooner or later" and precedes a future outcome that the speaker considers inevitable.

老师时时关注着我们的学习。

Lǎoshī shíshí guānzhù zhe wǒmen de xuéxí.

The teacher pays constant attention to our studies.

我好像在哪儿见过他,可一时又想不起来了。

Wǒ hǎoxiàng zài nǎr jiàn guò tā, kě yìshí yòu xiǎng bù qǐlái le.

I feel like I've seen him somewhere, but I can't recall at the moment.

他早晚会知道事情的真相。

Tā zǎowǎn huì zhīdào shìqing de zhēnxiàng.

Correlative Adverb: 便

关联副词:便 · guānlián fùcí: biàn

Use 便 as a formal/literary equivalent of 就 to express immediate sequence or natural consequence

Pattern一 + 动词₁ + 便 + 动词₂ | 条件 + 便 + 结果便 functions like 就 but in formal or literary register. It connects a condition or first action to an immediate result. The pattern 一……便…… means "as soon as… then…" In conditional sentences, 便 introduces the natural consequence.

他一下课便回家了。

Tā yí xiàkè biàn huíjiā le.

As soon as class ended, he went home.

她一毕业便决定回国。

Tā yí bìyè biàn juédìng huíguó.

As soon as she graduated, she decided to return to her home country.

消息一传出,便引起了社会各界的关注。

Xiāoxi yì chuánchū, biàn yǐnqǐ le shèhuì gèjiè de guānzhù.

As soon as the news spread, it attracted attention from all sectors of society.

Manner Adverbs: 不禁, 赶忙, 亲眼, 特地, 特意

方式副词:不禁、赶忙、亲眼、特地、特意 · fāngshì fùcí: bùjīn, gǎnmáng, qīnyǎn, tèdì, tèyì

Describe how actions are performed using five manner adverbs: involuntarily, hurriedly, with one's own eyes, specially, and deliberately

Pattern主语 + 不禁/赶忙/亲眼/特地/特意 + 动词Place the manner adverb before the main verb to describe how the action is carried out. 不禁 = involuntarily/can't help but; 赶忙 = hurriedly/hastily; 亲眼 = with one's own eyes; 特地 = specially/on purpose (going out of one's way); 特意 = deliberately/intentionally.

我不禁回忆起第一次跟她见面的场景。

Wǒ bùjīn huíyì qǐ dì yī cì gēn tā jiànmiàn de chǎngjǐng.

I couldn't help recalling the scene of our first meeting.

要迟到了,他赶忙出门,早饭都没吃。

Yào chídào le, tā gǎnmáng chūmén, zǎofàn dōu méi chī.

About to be late, he hurried out the door without even eating breakfast.

这件事是我亲眼所见,不会有假。

Zhè jiàn shì shì wǒ qīnyǎn suǒ jiàn, bú huì yǒu jiǎ.

I saw this with my own eyes — it cannot be fake.

Modal Adverb: 仿佛

情态副词:仿佛 · qíngtài fùcí: fǎngfú

Use 仿佛 to describe how something appears or feels, creating vivid comparisons and literary imagery

Pattern主语 + 仿佛 + (像/似的) + 描述Place 仿佛 before the description to express "as if" or "seemingly." It can stand alone or combine with 像, 似的, or 一样 for emphasis. The resulting phrase adds a literary, evocative quality.

奶奶仿佛孩子似的开心地笑了。

Nǎinai fǎngfú háizi shìde kāixīn de xiào le.

Grandma laughed happily, as if she were a child.

他工作起来仿佛不知道什么是累。

Tā gōngzuò qǐlái fǎngfú bù zhīdào shénme shì lèi.

When he works, it is as if he does not know what tiredness is.

那一刻,时间仿佛停止了。

Nà yí kè, shíjiān fǎngfú tíngzhǐ le.

At that moment, time seemed to stop.

Mood Adverbs: 才, 刚好, 偏, 恰好

Express emphasis, coincidence, and contrariness using the mood adverbs 才, 刚好, 偏, and 恰好

Pattern主语 + 才/刚好/偏/恰好 + 动词/形容词Each adverb is placed before the verb or adjective. 才 (emphatic) adds defiance or insistence. 刚好 and 恰好 express fortunate coincidence. 偏 expresses doing something contrary to expectations or wishes.

我才不要父母的钱呢,我要自己赚钱。

Wǒ cái bú yào fùmǔ de qián ne, wǒ yào zìjǐ zhuànqián.

I absolutely do not want my parents' money — I want to earn my own.

我要出门找他的时候他刚好回来了。

Wǒ yào chūmén zhǎo tā de shíhou tā gānghǎo huílái le.

Just as I was about to go out looking for him, he happened to come back.

北方的冬天极其寒冷,可他圣诞节偏要去那儿旅行。

Běifāng de dōngtiān jíqí hánlěng, kě tā Shèngdànjié piān yào qù nàr lǚxíng.

Winters in the north are extremely cold, yet he insists on traveling there for Christmas.

Preposition: 于 (Formal Time & Place)

介词引出时间处所:于 · jiècí yǐnchū shíjiān chùsuǒ: yú

Use the formal preposition 于 to indicate time, place, and context in written and formal Chinese

Pattern动词 + 于 + 时间/地点Place 于 after the verb to introduce the time or location. Unlike 在, which comes before the verb in everyday speech, 于 follows the verb and belongs to formal, written registers.

他出生于1995年。

Tā chūshēng yú yī jiǔ jiǔ wǔ nián.

He was born in 1995.

大熊猫主要生活于中国西南地区。

Dà xióngmāo zhǔyào shēnghuó yú Zhōngguó xīnán dìqū.

Giant pandas mainly live in southwestern China.

这座城市建于公元前200年。

Zhè zuò chéngshì jiàn yú gōngyuán qián èr bǎi nián.

This city was built in 200 BC.
