Pattern 说A就A — Do It as Soon as Said

四字格式:说A就A · sì zì géshì: shuō A jiù A

Use the 说A就A pattern to express spontaneous, decisive, or impulsive action

Pattern说 + Verb + 就 + same VerbRepeat a verb after 说 and 就 to express that the action is done immediately and decisively, as soon as it is mentioned. The pattern conveys spontaneity, decisiveness, or sometimes recklessness.

为什么人生需要有一次说走就走的旅行?

Wèishénme rénshēng xūyào yǒu yí cì shuō zǒu jiù zǒu de lǚxíng?

Why does life need one spontaneous, just-up-and-go trip?

说干就干,只有干了才能找到办法。

Shuō gàn jiù gàn, zhǐyǒu gàn le cái néng zhǎodào bànfǎ.

Let's get right to it — only by doing can we find a solution.

他就是这个脾气,说翻脸就翻脸。

Tā jiùshì zhège píqi, shuō fānliǎn jiù fānliǎn.

That's just his temper — he turns hostile at the drop of a hat.

Paired Pattern: 有A有B

有A有B · yǒu A yǒu B

Describe something that has both quality A and quality B using the 有A有B pattern

Pattern有A有BRepeat 有 before two contrasting or complementary elements (A and B) to express "having both A and B." A and B are typically single-syllable words that form a natural pair — opposites, related concepts, or complementary qualities.

下课了,同学们有说有笑地走出了教室。

Xiàkè le, tóngxuémen yǒu shuō yǒu xiào de zǒuchū le jiàoshì.

Class was over, and the students walked out of the classroom chatting and laughing.

这里的农村有山有水,空气好,农民们过上了好日子。

Zhèlǐ de nóngcūn yǒu shān yǒu shuǐ, kōngqì hǎo, nóngmínmen guòshàng le hǎo rìzi.

The countryside here has mountains and rivers, fresh air, and the farmers are living a good life.

节日的公园里有男有女,有老有少,十分热闹。

Jiérì de gōngyuán lǐ yǒu nán yǒu nǚ, yǒu lǎo yǒu shào, shífēn rènao.

Fixed Phrase: 不得了

不得了 · bùdéliǎo

Use 不得了 to express that something is terrible, extraordinary, or extreme

Pattern不得了 / Adj. + 得不得了Used in two main ways: (1) as an exclamation meaning "terrible!" or "extraordinary!" — 不得了!房间里进水了!(2) after an adjective with 得 to mean "extremely" — 高兴得不得了 (extremely happy). The tone shifts from alarm to intensification depending on context.

你又考了第一名,真是不得了!

Nǐ yòu kǎo le dì-yī míng, zhēnshi bùdéliǎo!

You got first place again — that is really impressive!

不得了,房间里进水了!

Bùdéliǎo, fángjiān lǐ jìnshuǐ le!

Oh no, the room is flooding!

完了完了,不得了,电脑坏了。

Wán le wán le, bùdéliǎo, diànnǎo huài le.

It is over, this is terrible — the computer is broken.

Fixed Phrase: 不敢当

不敢当 · bù gǎndāng

Use 不敢当 to humbly deflect compliments and praise

Pattern不敢当A humble response to compliments or praise. Literally "dare not accept (such honor)," it conveys modesty by suggesting the speaker does not deserve the praise being given. Often used in formal or semi-formal contexts.

这样的奖励我真是不敢当。

Zhèyàng de jiǎnglì wǒ zhēnshi bù gǎndāng.

I truly don't deserve such an award.

不敢当,我只是做了我应该做的事情。

Bù gǎndāng, wǒ zhǐshì zuò le wǒ yīnggāi zuò de shìqing.

I don't deserve it — I only did what I was supposed to do.

您千万别这样说,我实在是不敢当。

Nín qiānwàn bié zhèyàng shuō, wǒ shízài shì bù gǎndāng.

Please don't say that — I really don't deserve such praise.

Fixed Phrase: 得了

得了 · déle

Use 得了 to express "that's enough," "forget it," or "just do X then"

Pattern得了 / 得了吧A colloquial expression meaning "that's enough," "forget it," or "come on." Used to dismiss an idea, end a discussion, cut someone off, or suggest a simple solution. 得了吧 adds a slightly more dismissive or sarcastic tone.

麻烦别人还不如你自己去得了。

Máfan biéren hái bùrú nǐ zìjǐ qù déle.

Instead of bothering others, you might as well just go yourself.

得了吧,他不可能帮助别人的。

Déle ba, tā bù kěnéng bāngzhù biéren de.

Come on — he would never help anyone.

你可得了吧,谁能这么想呢?

Nǐ kě déle ba, shéi néng zhème xiǎng ne?

Oh give me a break — who would think like that?

Fixed Phrase: 用不着

用不着 · yòngbuzháo

Use 用不着 to express that there is no need for something

Pattern用不着 + Verb/NounPlace 用不着 before a verb or noun to express "there is no need to" or "it is unnecessary." It is more emphatic and colloquial than 不用 or 不需要, often carrying a tone of reassurance or mild dismissal.

你有话可以直接说,用不着害怕。

Nǐ yǒu huà kěyǐ zhíjiē shuō, yòngbuzháo hàipà.

If you have something to say, just say it directly — there is no need to be afraid.

用不着听他的,他什么都不懂。

Yòngbuzháo tīng tā de, tā shénme dōu bù dǒng.

There is no need to listen to him — he doesn't understand anything.

孩子们都工作了,您用不着担心了。

Háizimen dōu gōngzuò le, nín yòngbuzháo dānxīn le.

The children are all working now — you don't need to worry anymore.

Pattern: 从……来看

从……来看 · cóng ... lái kàn

Use 从……来看 to express a perspective or basis for judgment

Pattern从 + Perspective/Basis + 来看,ConclusionPlace the perspective or basis for judgment between 从 and 来看 to mean "judging from / from the perspective of." The main clause that follows states the conclusion or observation drawn from that perspective.

从这个角度来看,很多问题都可以解决。

Cóng zhège jiǎodù lái kàn, hěn duō wèntí dōu kěyǐ jiějué.

From this perspective, many problems can be solved.

从他的考试成绩来看,他平时根本没有认真学习。

Cóng tā de kǎoshì chéngjì lái kàn, tā píngshí gēnběn méiyǒu rènzhēn xuéxí.

Judging from his exam results, he clearly hasn't been studying seriously.

从以往的经验来看,这件事基本上没有问题。

Cóng yǐwǎng de jīngyàn lái kàn, zhè jiàn shì jīběnshang méiyǒu wèntí.

Based on past experience, this matter should be no problem.

Pattern: 到……为止

到……为止 · dào ... wéizhǐ

Use 到……为止 to express a time limit or endpoint

Pattern到 + Time/Event + 为止Place a time expression or event between 到 and 为止 to mark an endpoint meaning "up until" or "by (a certain point)." It sets a clear boundary or deadline for the action or state described in the sentence.

到目前为止,他还没有出过什么错。

Dào mùqián wéizhǐ, tā hái méiyǒu chūguò shénme cuò.

Up until now, he hasn't made any mistakes.

我的报告到此为止,谢谢!

Wǒ de bàogào dào cǐ wéizhǐ, xièxie!

My report concludes here — thank you!

到昨天为止,这个项目已经完成了一半。

Dào zuótiān wéizhǐ, zhège xiàngmù yǐjīng wánchéng le yíbàn.

As of yesterday, this project was already half completed.
