能愿动词:得 · néngyuàn dòngcí: děi

Express necessity or obligation using 得 (děi) meaning "must" or "have to"

Pattern主语 + 得 (děi) + 动词 (+ 其他成分)Place 得 (děi) before the main verb to express that the subject must or has to do something. It indicates necessity driven by circumstances or personal judgment.

今天下课我得早点儿回家。

Scope Adverb: 共 (Altogether / In Total)

Use 共 to express totals, sums, and collective scope in statements

Pattern共 (+ 有) + 数量 + 名词 | 主语 + 共 + 动词Place 共 before the number or verb to indicate a total sum or collective action. 共 can be used with or without 有. It summarizes a count or expresses that something is done collectively.

共有三十人出席会议。

Gòng yǒu sānshí rén chūxí huìyì.

A total of thirty people attended the meeting.

这本书共十五课。

Zhè běn shū gòng shíwǔ kè.

This book has fifteen lessons in total.

我们班共有二十五个学生。

Wǒmen bān gòng yǒu èrshíwǔ gè xuéshēng.

Our class has twenty-five students in total.

Use the interjection 啊 to express surprise, realization, admiration, and other emotions naturally

Pattern啊 + ,+ sentence / sentence + 啊!啊 can appear at the beginning of a sentence to express surprise or sudden realization, or at the end to add emotional intensity such as admiration, urgency, or exclamation.

Pronoun: 人家 (Other People / That Person / I)

人称代词:人家 · rénchēng dàicí: rénjia

Understand and use the versatile pronoun 人家 in its three common meanings: other people, a specific person, and a colloquial "I"

Rénjia yě shì wèi nǐ hǎo a.

They are doing it for your own good, you know.

人家现在有困难,咱们应该帮他。

Rénjia xiànzài yǒu kùnnan, zánmen yīnggāi bāng tā.

He is having difficulties now — we should help him.

你看人家经常锻炼,身体多好。

Nǐ kàn rénjia jīngcháng duànliàn, shēntǐ duō hǎo.

Preposition: 自 (from/since)

介词引出时间处所:自 · jiècí yǐnchū shíjiān chùsuǒ: zì

Use the formal preposition 自 to indicate a starting point in time or place

Pattern自 + 时间/地点 + (以来) + 主句Place 自 before a time expression or location to indicate the starting point. When referring to time, 自 is often followed by 以来 (since then). When referring to place, 自 means "from" in a formal register.

自1978年以来,中国发生了很大的变化。

Zì yī jiǔ qī bā nián yǐlái, Zhōngguó fāshēng le hěn dà de biànhuà.

Since 1978, China has undergone great changes.

我们的航班准时自北京出发。

Wǒmen de hángbān zhǔnshí zì Běijīng chūfā.

Use the four-character pattern 大A大B to describe actions or things done on a grand or exaggerated scale

Pattern大 + A + 大 + BThis four-character pattern pairs two related single-character verbs or adjectives (A and B) with 大 to create a vivid expression suggesting something done boldly, excessively, or on a large scale.

你这大吃大喝的毛病对身体不好,一定要改改。

Nǐ zhè dà chī dà hē de máobìng duì shēntǐ bù hǎo, yídìng yào gǎigǎi.

Your habit of eating and drinking extravagantly is bad for your health — you really must change it.

她心情不好,为一点儿小事就大吵大闹。

Tā xīnqíng bù hǎo, wèi yìdiǎnr xiǎoshì jiù dà chǎo dà nào.

She was in a bad mood and made a huge fuss over a small matter.

他花钱大手大脚的,很快就把钱花完了。

Borrowed Measure Words

借用量词 · jièyòng liàngcí

Understand how nouns and verbs can be "borrowed" as measure words to create vivid, descriptive expressions

Pattern(名量词) 数词 + 名词借用为量词 + 名词 | (动量词) 动词借用为量词Certain nouns (碗, 脸, 手, 屋子, 桌子) and verbs (刀, 针) can be temporarily "borrowed" to serve as measure words, creating more vivid and specific expressions than standard measure words would.

给我来一碗汤。

Gěi wǒ lái yì wǎn tāng.

Bring me a bowl of soup.

他跑完步,一脸汗。

Tā pǎo wán bù, yì liǎn hàn.

After his run, his face was covered in sweat.

别碰,我一手油呢。

Bié pèng, wǒ yì shǒu yóu ne.

Don't touch me — my hands are covered in oil.
