Experience with 过

经历态:用动态助词"过"表示 · jīnglì tài: yòng dòngtài zhùcí "guò" biǎoshì

Use the aspect particle 过 to express whether someone has had a life experience

Pattern主语 + 动词 + 过 + 宾语 / 主语 + 没(有) + 动词 + 过 + 宾语Place 过 after the verb to indicate that the subject has experienced something at some point in the past. The negative form uses 没(有) before the verb, and 过 remains after the verb.

他学过中文。

Tā xué guò Zhōngwén.

He has studied Chinese before.

他没学过中文。

Tā méi xué guò Zhōngwén.

He has never studied Chinese.

我吃过饺子。

Wǒ chī guò jiǎozi.

I have eaten dumplings before.

Ordinal Numbers

序数表示法 · xùshù biǎoshìfǎ

Form ordinal numbers with 第 and understand when 第 is omitted in floors, buildings, and routes

Pattern第 + 数词 (+ 量词 + 名词)Add 第 before a number to make it ordinal: 第一 (first), 第二 (second), etc. However, for floors, building numbers, room numbers, and bus routes, 第 is typically omitted.

他是第一个来的。

Tā shì dì-yī gè lái de.

He was the first to arrive.

这是我第三次来中国。

Zhè shì wǒ dì-sān cì lái Zhōngguó.

This is my third time coming to China.

请到三楼。

Qǐng dào sān lóu.

Please go to the third floor.

Approximate Numbers with 多

概数表示法1 · gàishù biǎoshìfǎ yī

Express approximate quantities using 多 in two different positions depending on the measure word

Pattern(1) 数词 + 多 + 量词: 三十多本 | (2) 数词 + 量词 + 多: 三块多When the number is a round number (10, 20, 100, etc.), 多 goes BEFORE the measure word. When the number includes a single digit with a large-unit measure word (块, 米, 斤, etc.), 多 goes AFTER the measure word.

我们班有三十多个学生。

Wǒmen bān yǒu sānshí duō gè xuéshēng.

Our class has more than thirty students.

这本书五十多块。

Zhè běn shū wǔshí duō kuài.

This book is fifty-something yuan.

这条鱼有七斤多。

Zhè tiáo yú yǒu qī jīn duō.

This fish weighs seven-something catties.

Emphasis with 就

用"就"表示强调 · yòng "jiù" biǎoshì qiángdiào

Use 就 to add emphasis, confirmation, or assertiveness to statements

Pattern主语 + 就 + 是/在/动词 + ……Place 就 before the verb (often 是 or 在) to emphasize certainty. It adds a tone of "precisely," "exactly," or "right there."

教学楼就在前边。

Jiàoxuélóu jiù zài qiánbian.

The teaching building is right up ahead.

你看,这就是我们上课的教室。

Nǐ kàn, zhè jiù shì wǒmen shàngkè de jiàoshì.

Look, this is exactly the classroom where we have class.

他就是我的同屋。

Tā jiù shì wǒ de tóngwū.

He is precisely my roommate.

Tag Questions: 好吗, 可以吗, 行吗, 怎么样

用"好吗、可以吗、行吗、怎么样"提问 · yòng "hǎo ma, kěyǐ ma, xíng ma, zěnmeyàng" tíwèn

Make suggestions and seek agreement by adding tag questions to statements

Pattern陈述句 + 好吗?/ 可以吗?/ 行吗?/ 怎么样?State your suggestion or plan first, then add a tag question at the end to ask for the listener is agreement or opinion. All four tags seek confirmation but differ in tone.

我们明天八点出发,好吗?

Wǒmen míngtiān bā diǎn chūfā, hǎo ma?

Let us leave at 8 tomorrow, okay?

你明天早点儿来,可以吗?

Nǐ míngtiān zǎo diǎnr lái, kěyǐ ma?

Can you come a bit earlier tomorrow, is that okay?

你的词典借我用用,行吗?

Nǐ de cídiǎn jiè wǒ yòngyong, xíng ma?
