Pattern主语 + 语气副词 + 动词/形容词Mood adverbs are placed before the predicate to color the sentence with the speaker's attitude. Each carries a distinct emotional tone: 毕竟 (after all), 不免 (inevitably), 差点儿 (almost), 倒是 (actually/on the contrary), 干脆 (simply/just), 就 (insistence), 居然 (unexpectedly), 可 (emphasis), 明明 (clearly/obviously), 总算 (finally/at last).

不要怪他,他毕竟还小。

Bú yào guài tā, tā bìjìng hái xiǎo.

Don't blame him — after all, he is still young.

Preposition: 随着 (Along With / As)

介词引出时间处所:随着 · jiècí yǐnchū shíjiān chùsuǒ: suízhe

Use 随着 to express that one change accompanies or is caused by another change

Pattern随着 + A 的变化,B 也/越来越 + 变化随着 introduces a changing condition (A) that leads to or accompanies another change (B). It is often paired with 越来越 (more and more) or other expressions of gradual change in the main clause.

随着时间的推移,我慢慢理解了他的做法。

Suízhe shíjiān de tuīyí, wǒ mànmàn lǐjiě le tā de zuòfǎ.

As time went by, I gradually understood his approach.

随着冬天的到来,天气越来越冷。

Suízhe dōngtiān de dàolái, tiānqì yuèláiyuè lěng.

As winter arrives, the weather gets colder and colder.

随着科技的发展,人们的生活变得更方便了。

Suízhe kējì de fāzhǎn, rénmen de shēnghuó biàn de gèng fāngbiàn le.

Preposition: 将 (Formal 把)

介词引出施事受事:将 · jiècí yǐnchū shīshì shòushì: jiāng

Use 将 as a formal written equivalent of 把 to indicate disposal or handling of an object

Pattern主语 + 将 + 宾语 + 动词(+ 补语/结果)将 functions identically to 把 in grammar — it introduces the object before the verb to show that the subject acts upon or disposes of the object. The difference is purely stylistic: 将 is formal, literary, and used in written Chinese.

父母将他送到中国留学。

Fùmǔ jiāng tā sòngdào Zhōngguó liúxué.

His parents sent him to China to study.

禁止将书带出阅览室。

Jìnzhǐ jiāng shū dài chū yuèlǎnshì.

It is forbidden to take books out of the reading room.

公司将这个项目交给了他。

Gōngsī jiāng zhège xiàngmù jiāo gěi le tā.

The company entrusted this project to him.

Preposition 由 — Introducing the Agent

介词:由² · jiècí: yóu

Use the preposition 由 to indicate who is responsible for or carries out an action

Pattern由 + agent + 来/去 + verb phrasePlace 由 before the person or group responsible for performing an action. The verb 来 or 去 often appears after the agent to soften the assignment or suggestion. 由 can also directly precede the verb without 来/去 in more formal contexts.

这道题由你来回答吧。

Zhè dào tí yóu nǐ lái huídá ba.

This question — you answer it.

这件事情由班长负责。

Zhè jiàn shìqing yóu bānzhǎng fùzé.

This matter is the class monitor's responsibility.

今天的会议由王经理主持。

Jīntiān de huìyì yóu Wáng jīnglǐ zhǔchí.

Preposition 凭 — By Means Of

Use 凭 to express doing something based on a certain basis, credential, or ability

Pattern凭 + noun/ability + verb phrasePlace 凭 before the basis, credential, or quality that enables or justifies an action. The noun after 凭 can be a concrete item (a ticket, a certificate) or an abstract quality (experience, ability, effort).

凭他的水平,通过这次考试没有问题。

Píng tā de shuǐpíng, tōngguò zhè cì kǎoshì méiyǒu wèntí.

Given his level, passing this exam is no problem.

凭经验进行判断往往是不准确的。

Píng jīngyàn jìnxíng pànduàn wǎngwǎng shì bú zhǔnquè de.

Making judgments based on experience alone is often inaccurate.

Pattern依据 + noun (facts/rules/evidence) + verb phrasePlace 依据 before the factual basis, law, regulation, or evidence upon which an action or conclusion is grounded. 依据 is formal and typically used in written Chinese, news, legal contexts, and official speech.

Yào yījù shìshí bànshì.

One must act based on facts.

Jǐngchá yījù xiànsuǒ zhuāzhù le huàirén.

The police caught the criminal based on clues.
