Attach result complements to verbs to express the outcome of an action

Pattern动词 + 错/懂/干净/好/会/清楚/完A result complement is placed directly after a verb to indicate the result or outcome of that action. The verb tells what you did; the complement tells how it turned out.

你写错了两个汉字。

Nǐ xiě cuò le liǎng gè Hànzì.

You wrote two Chinese characters wrong.

这个句子我没看懂。

Zhège jùzi wǒ méi kàn dǒng.

I did not understand this sentence (after reading it).

衣服我洗干净了。

Yīfu wǒ xǐ gānjìng le.

I washed the clothes clean.

Directional Complements 1

趋向补语1 · qūxiàng bǔyǔ 1

Express direction of movement using simple directional complements after verbs

Pattern(1) 动词 + 来/去 | (2) 动词 + 上/下/进/出/起/过/回/开Directional complements are placed after a verb to indicate the direction of the action. 来 (toward the speaker) and 去 (away from the speaker) are the two basic ones. 上, 下, 进, 出, 起, 过, 回, 开 provide more specific directional meaning.

你看他向这边走来了。

Nǐ kàn tā xiàng zhè biān zǒu lái le.

Look, he is walking over this way.

这件礼物怎么给他?你给他带去吧。

Zhè jiàn lǐwù zěnme gěi tā? Nǐ gěi tā dài qù ba.

How to give him this gift? Just take it to him.

我明天带一个相机来。

Wǒ míngtiān dài yí gè xiàngjī lái.

I will bring a camera tomorrow.

State Complement: Verb + 得 + Adjective

状态补语1:动词+得+形容词性词语 · zhuàngtài bǔyǔ: dòngcí + de + xíngróngcí xìng cíyǔ

Describe how an action is performed using the verb + 得 + adjective pattern

Pattern主语 + 动词 + 得 + 形容词性词语Place 得 (de) after the verb, followed by an adjective or adjective phrase that describes the manner or result of the action. This is the state complement structure.

她跑得很快。

Tā pǎo de hěn kuài.

She runs very fast.

我们玩儿得很高兴。

Wǒmen wánr de hěn gāoxìng.

We had a great time (playing).

他中文说得非常流利。

Tā Zhōngwén shuō de fēicháng liúlì.

He speaks Chinese very fluently.
