Your account page is where everything about you rather than about Chinese lives. This article is a map of it, plus the one thing that surprises people: some settings follow your account and some stay on the device you set them on.
Profile
- Your name — How you are addressed throughout the app, and what a tutor or circle sees.
- Your email address — Changeable. A change sends a confirmation link to the new address, so it only takes effect once you have proved you can read mail there.
- Your avatar — Shown in circles and, if you are a listed tutor, in the directory.
- Your bio — With a separate switch for whether it is public. Writing one does not publish it — plenty of people use the field for notes to themselves.
Preferences are per device
Sound effects, background music, haptics and your cookie choices are stored on the device you set them on, not on your account.
So turning music off on your laptop does not turn it off on your phone. That is deliberate — the right volume in a quiet room is the wrong one on a commute — but it does mean setting them once is not enough.
- Sound effects — Clicks and audio cues for correct answers, streaks and XP, with a volume control.
- Background music — A soft ambient loop while you study. Off by default for most people’s taste.
- Haptics — Subtle vibration, on devices that support it.
- Cookie preferences — Changeable here at any time rather than only on your first visit.
Everything else on the account page
- Subscription — Your plan, invoices and the card on file.
- Privacy — Cookie choices, data export and account deletion.
- Sessions — Where you are signed in, and how to sign a device out remotely.
- Notifications — What reaches you, and by which route.
- Study plan — Your schedule, and the level and goals it is built from.
- Circles and tutors — The groups you are in and the people teaching you.
- Messages, achievements, podcasts — Your threads, your badge wall, and the podcast library.
Changing your level or goals
From the study plan area, and both are free. Changing level does not touch your progress, XP, streak or flashcards — only what is recommended next.
Reshaping your weekly schedule costs 2 credits; regenerating the whole plan costs 15. See your study plan.
Common questions
Because sound, music, haptics and cookie choices are per device. Set them on each device you use — the right setting at a desk is rarely the right one on a train.
