Modal Particles: 啊, 吧, 的

语气助词:啊、吧、的 · yǔqì zhùcí: a, ba, de

Use 啊 for exclamation, 吧 for suggestion or uncertainty, and 的 for emphasis on established facts

PatternSentence + 啊/吧/的Modal particles go at the END of a sentence to adjust the tone or mood. 啊 adds emotion or exclamation, 吧 softens a statement into a suggestion or shows uncertainty, and 的 emphasizes that something is a fact.

今天真冷啊!

Jīntiān zhēn lěng a!

It is really cold today!

这个蛋糕好吃啊!

Zhège dàngāo hǎochī a!

Particles: 的话 (If) & 等 (Etc.)

其他助词:的话、等 · qítā zhùcí: dehuà, děng

Use 的话 to create "if" conditionals and 等 to list items with "etc."

Pattern(如果 +) Condition + 的话,Result / Items + 等的话 attaches to the end of a conditional clause meaning "if that is the case." 等 goes after a list of items to mean "and so on" or "etc."

你要来的话就给我打个电话。

Nǐ yào lái dehuà jiù gěi wǒ dǎ ge diànhuà.

If you are coming, give me a call.

如果明天下雨的话,我们就不去了。

Rúguǒ míngtiān xiàyǔ dehuà, wǒmen jiù bú qù le.

If it rains tomorrow, we will not go.

不喜欢的话,可以不吃。

Bù xǐhuan dehuà, kěyǐ bù chī.

If you do not like it, you do not have to eat it.
