Adjective-Predicate Sentences

形容词谓语句 · xíngróngcí wèiyǔ jù

Describe states using adjectives as predicates (no 'is' needed!)

PatternSubject + 很/太/真/非常 + Adjective (NO 是!)In Chinese, adjectives act as verbs — they don't need "is." Just pair the subject with a degree adverb and the adjective. It's one of the most elegant features of the language.

房间很干净。

Fángjiān hěn gānjìng.

The room is clean.

这个学生最认真。

Zhège xuéshēng zuì rènzhēn.

Xià yǔ le!

Xiǎoxīn!

Watch out!

快走!
