Institution pricing has two dials — teacher seats and student capacity — and picking a tier is almost entirely about the first one. This article is what each tier actually allows, which limit binds first, and what happens when you hit one.
The four tiers
- Starter — $199/month, $1,990/year — 1 admin, 5 teacher seats, 150 students. Bulk import and cross-teacher analytics.
- Growth — $349/month, $3,490/year — 1 admin, 10 teacher seats, 350 students. Adds branded join links and priority support.
- Scale — $699/month, $6,990/year — 2–3 admins, 25 teacher seats, 1,000 students. Everything in Growth.
- Enterprise — on request — Custom volume and staff, multi-campus, custom onboarding, reporting and a support SLA.
Yearly is ten months for twelve at every tier.

Which limit binds first
Almost always teacher seats. The student ceilings are deliberately generous — 150 students to 5 teachers is 30 each, and few Chinese teachers carry thirty active learners on a platform.
So size on staff. A centre with 8 teachers and 90 students will want Growth’s 10 seats, or can top Starter up at $15/mo a seat — worth comparing $244 against $349.
What counts against each limit
- A teacher seat — Taken when a teacher accepts. Pending invitations do not count; removing a teacher frees theirs immediately.
- A student — An account in the institution that is not staff. Unclaimed imported accounts still exist, so a large import of addresses nobody reads does consume capacity.
- A class — Nothing — classes are unlimited at every tier. Splitting a cohort into six circles costs you nothing.
- An admin — One on Starter and Growth, two or three on Scale. An extra admin seat is $20/mo on any of the three.
Moving between tiers
Upgrading takes effect immediately and raises both limits. Downgrading requires you to be under the lower tier’s limits first — 400 students will not fit into 350 places, and the system will not choose which 50 to remove.
Neither direction touches student progress. Accounts, work and history all persist.
Credits are still per account
Institution tiers buy seats and capacity, not a shared AI budget. Each student spends from their own credit balance, and one student exhausting theirs does not affect anybody else.
If a pooled allowance across a cohort is what you need, that is an Enterprise conversation rather than a setting on the other tiers.
Common questions
Teacher seats, nearly always. Student ceilings are generous relative to the seat counts, so staff is what runs out first.
