Not what you were looking for?

Teachers come in on seats, and seats are the constraint that actually binds at every tier. This article is how an invitation works, what a teacher can do once they are in, and the one thing worth deciding before you send twenty of them.

Seats

  • Starter — 5 teacher seatsPlus one admin.
  • Growth — 10 teacher seatsPlus one admin.
  • Scale — 25 teacher seatsPlus two or three admin accounts.
  • Enterprise — as many as you needArranged rather than listed.

A seat is occupied by a teacher who has accepted. Pending invitations do not consume one, and removing a teacher frees theirs immediately.

Sending an invitation

  1. Use the address they will sign in withThe invitation is keyed to it. A personal address when they will use a school one means the invitation never attaches.
  2. Send itThey get a link. Nothing changes on their side until they accept.
  3. They arrive already set upThe invitation carries both the teacher role and your institution, so there is no second step where they pick either. An existing account gains the role; a new one is created with it.

What a teacher can do

  • Run their classesRoster, assignments, timeline, messaging and the Learning Lab, for the classes they own.
  • Set homeworkPointing at real content with a due date, with completion measured from the learner’s own checkpoints.
  • See their learners’ progressThe same figures the learners see about themselves.
  • Study themselvesA teacher account is also a learner account.

What they cannot do is administer the institution — seats, billing, imports and institution-wide analytics stay with admins.

Moderators

Institution circles have a moderator role between owner and member, which a tutor’s circle does not. It is how a senior teacher or a teaching assistant helps run a class they do not own, without being made an institution admin.

Worth using rather than handing out admin: admin is billing and imports, and most people who need more than member need much less than that.

Before you invite the whole department

  1. Decide who owns which classA class has one owner. Sorting that out on a whiteboard first is faster than reassigning afterwards.
  2. Invite two peopleCheck they arrive as teachers, attached to your institution, and can see their class. Then send the rest.
  3. Confirm the addressesSchool addresses that nobody reads are the reason invitations vanish. Ask, do not assume.

Common questions

No. A seat is taken when a teacher accepts, and freed immediately if you remove them.
